Rich vs. Poor in Catholic Theology

For a long time, there have been several misunderstandings concerning the Catholic Church's philosophy on the rich and poor. The real message that the Catholic Church tries to convey is that man should never put wealth before God, because the only true wealth that exists is the everlasting Kingdom of God. "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given him from heaven" (John 3:27). Also, man is to be charitable with his or her money, when we give to the poor, we continue to live the life that God wants all of mankind to live. All of man is called to live a humble and holy life. It is by leaving the thought of obtaining physical wealth and working to acquire the true divine wealth of God that we can become man fully alive. "In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:30).
